DENBY DALE WIND FARM FIGHT SEEKS DOWNING STREET BACKING
Denby Dale Conservative Cllr Jim Dodds has taken the fight against wind turbines being erected in his ward to the Prime Minister. Tony Blair had backed a similar fight in his own constituency, successfully blocking the erection of 250ft turbines within a mile of his home. In comparison the Denby Dale turbines are monsters, at 410 ft they will be the tallest in Britain, and they will be situated within 350m of houses.
Cllr Dodds said:
“The Prime Minister has openly stated that ‘whilst he supports development of alternative sources of energy, they need to be situated in the correct place’, and that ‘they shouldn’t be situated near housing developments’.
“These are exactly the same arguments we are using to oppose the Denby Dale scheme, and I am assuming that the PM will support our fight, and that we can add his name to our list of objectors, along with that of the Conservative Leader, Michael Howard, who visited the proposed site last month.
“I have written to Blair asking him for his support, because I am sick of hearing the counter argument we are faced with about his Government’s Renewable Energy Policy. Is he either for or against these monstrosities? Or is it that he is only against them in his own back yard?”
Cllr Dodds letter is attached for information.
