Elections 2008

The local elections in May 2008 saw the Conservatives re-establish themselves as the Council's largest Group and take over 31% of the vote. Six standing Councillors were re-elected, and two new Councillors were welcomed to the Group - Beryl Smith in Holme Valley North, and John Cook in Denby Dale.

The Group now have all three seats in 5 of the 23 wards: Birstall & Birkenshaw,  Holme Valley South, Liversdege & Gomersal, Mirfield, and Denby Dale. The Group have 2 seats in Holme Valley North, Kirkburton and Dewsbury South, and 1 seat in Lindley.

Looking forward to the local elections in May 2010 the Group's aims will be to strengthen their position as the controlling party to ensure they can retain overall control of the Council and continue to implement changes for the benefit of all.

In the mean time, if you have any comments relating to our policies, or if you can help contribute to our election campaign, please contact our Group Leader, Cllr Jim Dodds - jim.dodds@kirklees.gov.uk
